Well on May 1st I made a mistake that turned out alright. I forgot that we didn’t have class on that day and I’m pretty sure I was the only one. As I walked into an empty room I stormed out immediately, and then I stumbled onto the Cinco De Mayo Festival at Chico State University out in the lawn by the library. So my stupidity actually turned out to be a good thing for me, since there was a cultural event happening at that time.
I noticed all the tables sitting around the lawn. These tables were all set up by different clubs and organizations. The first one that really caught my eye was because of the tostadas that they were selling. So of course I had to get one, but then I decided after that I would do a little learning. As I walked around table to table I learned a few things about Cinco De Mayo. First off I guess I was wrong in thinking what Cinco De Mayo was celebrating. I thought that it was Mexico’s Independence Day and an excuse to drink lots of alcohol. According to the people sitting at the table that was put up by Epsilon Sigma Rho it was actually when Mexico defeated France.
Besides all of the tables that were there, the other thing that caught my attention was the music that was playing. Along with the music was a group dancing. First thing that I realized is that they are all in great shape, because for a good eight minutes they did not stop moving. I don’t understand how they could do that, but they did and they did it real well. I really enjoyed watching the dancing, listening to the music, and learning a little something about the holiday.
